Darkness that Binds

Out of the shadows of his heart, the Darkness threatened to consume him--again.
No matter how hard Llyr struggled to separate it, the Darkness was as much a part of him as was the hope of tomorrow, the beat of his heart, and the breath that brought him life.
To ignore the shadows, was to ignore his true self--a feat that has driven him to madness.

I feel this image captures the duality we all have inside. The suffocating feeling of darkness that is always lurking just behind us, threatening to break through at any moment.

This has been my struggle lately.
With my son in the NICU for over 2 months now, it has been a real struggle emotionally. He is doing great And will be coming home very soon, but the emotions that have been lurking within the corners of my heart bubble up now and again. There is fear, doubt, anxiety, sorrow, and uncertainty of the unknown. I have to choose to push those shadows away, sweep them like cobwebs in the recesses of my mind. I must focus on the positive and work towards the day my son comes home.

For anyone who has struggled, I hope this photo and this message reaches you. Know you are not alone and yes, it truly does get better. Depression and fear are constant friends, who you don't need to entertain. Know that they are real. You can feel the darkness, without succumbing to it. Stand up for your right to be you--sorrow, shadows, and all.
There is light in the dark. Joy in the sorrow. Each day ends with a new tomorrow.
